About SheetClarity

A focused tool for understanding what changed between two spreadsheets.

Why this project exists

A spreadsheet often travels through several versions before the work is finished. Prices are updated, order lines are added, and rows are rearranged. Comparing those versions by eye makes it easy to miss a change or mistake a moved row for a new record.

SheetClarity is an independent project created and maintained by Cristian Caldera. It helps people compare structured Excel and CSV files by matching records, listing differences and exporting a report. The current release is a free, early release.

What the tool actually compares

You choose the original and updated files, pair their sheets, and select one or more identifying columns. The comparison checks values across matching rows. It reports additions, removals, modifications and unchanged rows, and lists missing or duplicate identifiers separately.

This is a data comparison tool. It does not compare cell colors, fonts, charts, layout or every Excel feature. It does not recalculate formulas. Those boundaries matter when deciding whether a report answers your particular question.

Local processing by design

The comparison code runs on your device in a browser worker. The tool does not upload your spreadsheet contents to a comparison server or send them to an AI service. Reports are generated locally when you request a download. Hosting and access services still handle normal website requests; see the privacy notice for that distinction.

How our guidance is prepared

Our guides describe this tool’s implemented behavior and use small, fictional examples. We check the underlying engine with automated tests covering reordered rows, composite identifiers, duplicate keys, formulas, CSV parsing and report generation. Tests help detect defects but do not guarantee every workbook will behave as expected.

We update instructions when the tool changes. We do not publish invented customer stories, certifications or performance guarantees. Review important reports against your source records before making operational or financial decisions.

Independence and availability

SheetClarity is not affiliated with Microsoft or Google. Excel is a Microsoft product. The tool uses SheetJS Community Edition, whose license is available here. This preview has no paid plan, advertising or analytics integration. For limits, troubleshooting and a safe way to prepare feedback, visit Help & support.
