Good to know: file limits & comparison rules
20 MB and 2 million cells per file. Performance depends on your device. Column headers must be unique. Data columns match by header name, independent of order; renamed columns are treated as different fields. Align header names in copies of your files if they should represent the same field. Dates stored as dates are compared by their value; text dates are compared as text. Formula mode compares stored formula text, without recalculating Excel. Blank cells compare equally. Key matching is exact and preserves text codes such as 00123. Encrypted workbooks, macros and scanned PDFs are not supported.
Files are kept in this tab’s memory and cleared when it closes or when you clear the comparison. No analytics, ads or remote file processing are included in this prototype.

Excel and CSV comparison questions
Can I compare Excel files without uploading them?
Yes. SheetClarity reads the files in this browser tab and runs the comparison locally. The comparison code does not send the spreadsheet contents to a server. See our privacy notice for the distinction between local files and ordinary hosting requests.
Does a different row order affect the result?
Rows are matched by the identifying columns you choose, not by their position. A changed price on the same SKU is a modification; a moved row with unchanged values is not. Duplicate or missing identifiers need review. Learn which row keys to choose.
Which file formats and Excel features are supported?
The tool accepts .xlsx and .csv, up to 20 MB and two million cells per file. It compares cell values and, optionally, stored formula text. It does not compare colors, fonts or charts, run macros or recalculate formulas. Encrypted workbooks and the legacy .xls format are not supported.
Can I compare several sheets and export the differences?
Yes. Pair the original and updated sheets, including renamed sheets, and select the identifying columns for each pair. Unpaired sheets are included as additions or removals. Download an Excel report with a summary, detailed changes and review flags, or export the changes as CSV.
